Fall Tour Wrap-Up
The
Kansas Gelbvieh Association had a very successful fall tour in August
highlighting five KGA Gelbvieh breeders in the Eastern district.
The tour began with lunch at Dawson Creek
Gelbvieh where Bob & Karla Beying, Brian Beying and family, and Tim
Beying and family displayed for those in attendance the bulls and
breeding cattle on their farm and spoke about the Dawson Creek breeding
program.
The
group then moved on the 4B Gelbvieh where Steve and Anna Buffo spoke of
how they make a success raising their cattle in an urban area and the
opportunities presented for educating the public on raising beef cattle.
Hart Farms was the next stop in
the tour where Bob Hart highlighted his donor cows and shared with the
group his success in utilizing embryos in his program.
The tour ended at Triple K Gelbvieh where AGA
president Al Knapp and his wife Mary had their show cattle on display
along with other breeding cattle and bulls.
Hightower Cattle Company
included a group of their cattle and highlighted their program for all
of the Gelbvieh enthusiasts on the tour.
Jason Hightower, current KGA Vice
President, gave an overview of what his farm operation has to offer.
The
tour was completed with dinner at Triple K which was served by the Reno
Bobwhites 4-H club.
Dave Watson of Garvey Feeds
spoke of the feed that they offer at Garvey Feeds which is a lower cost
ration without sacrificing growth in the cattle.&
Janette Hightower, feed manager
with the Leavenworth Coop also spoke of the feed and other items that
can be found at their facility.
The group then heard talks from Cale Wiehe,
district coordinator for the KLA, and Frank Padilla and Brandon
McEndaffer with the American Gelbvieh Association.
