Sandy Knoll Farm Gelbvieh is part of a diversified farming/livestock operation located in South Central Kansas, near St. John.  We have been breeding Gelbvieh cattle since 1982. Brian began with a Gelbvieh 4-H heifer and subsequently Leon purchased a set of registered cows to serve as the foundation to the current herd.  Many of our pedigrees have Fullblood genetics in their background as we maintain one of the largest Fullblood Gelbvieh herds in the United States.  Productiveness, predictability, and profitability have been the constant driving factors in our genetic program over the years – versus the latest fads of the beef industry.   We have confidence in knowing how our genetics perform from a feeding and carcass standpoint because we have been collecting individual carcass data for over 6 years on all of our calves fed through the feedyard.   As we surmised, color has not been as important to deriving profitability as has feed efficiency and carcass cutability.  In addition to our predominately red Purebred and Fullblood cowherd, we have slowly added black genetics and most recently Balancers through AI.  We continue to use an extensive AI program as 90% of our heifers and cows are given at least one AI exposure.  We are members of Seedstock Plus LLC, a group of 65 members who cooperatively sell over 1000 bulls, throughout the Midwest and Plains states.  Our bulls are marketed through two sales in Colorado.  Females are marketed through special female sales as well as by private treaty.  If you have any questions feel free to give us a call @ 620-549-6516.

Sincerely,  Sandy Knoll Farm -  Brian, Carolyn & Preston Dunn,  Leon & Jan Dunn
